TUPE is a set of government legislation that deals with the Transfer of Undertaking (Protection of Employment) regulations, which exists to protect the rights of employees in the event of their employer choosing to transfer business services to another company. In effect, the legislation ensures that the employee’s contract of employment must transfer to the new service provider, that comparable terms and conditions of employment must be met as part of the transfer and that the employees should be informed and consulted throughout the transfer process.
What Does TUPE Mean for Williams Lea?
We believe that TUPE presents a brilliant opportunity to bring people with valuable skills and experience into the heart of our organisation. It is also a sensible way of ensuring confidence and continuity of great service for our new clients.
By transferring to Williams Lea, our clients’ employees move to a business that values their skills as core, revenue generating activities. Recognise this important fact and you will understand why we believe it’s critical that we create a better environment for these people to perform.
The TUPE process is something that Williams Lea excels in - our aim is to make transfer as straightforward and pain-free as possible. We’ve managed the process for more than 160 clients, involving more that 1700 employees in total. Out of this, 75% of those people transferred within the last five years. Importantly, people who transfer to Williams Lea through TUPE, tend to stay. Only 5% of people who came to the business through TUPE during the last 12 months have moved on.
We want to integrate transferring employees quickly and effectively into our organisation - that’s why we place great emphasis on communications and learning. This process begins with a formal induction into the Williams Lea business and is built upon through a personal development plan and social events - to help people find their feet and settle in as soon as possible.
